Ale Guerra enters her fourth year as women's tennis head coach in 2018-19. Under her tutelage, UNCG women’s tennis has had three Southern Conference All-Freshman selections and a SoCon Sportsmanship award.

2018 saw UNCG women’s tennis go 4-17 during the spring season and earned a Southern Conference victory over Chattanooga at home on senior day. The Spartans were led by freshman Brianna Gomez as she finished her rookie season with a 15-3 mark, competing mostly at No. 4-6 in singles play. Gomez earned UNCG’s All-Conference recognition, earning a spot on the All-Freshman team. Guerra guided Gomez to a 10-0 start to begin her collegiate career. The 2018 Spartans won three-straight matches in February, besting teams from UNCW, Gardner-Webb and UNC Ashville. The Spartans closed the regular season with a 4-3 win over Chattanooga at the UNCG Tennis courts.

In her second season at the helm, UNCG again earned the six seed in the SoCon tournament, finishing 2-5 in league play. The Spartans notched wins over Wofford, 5-2 and Western Carolina, 4-3. In the nonconference season, UNCG earned a 5-2 victory over the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. Guerra helped tutor Sophia Adams to SoCon All-Freshman honors in Adams’ rookie campaign.

In her first season as the UNCG head coach, Guerra’s squad finished 8-13, and 2-5 in SoCon play. After opening the season against No. 1 North Carolina, the Spartans notched their first victory of the season over East Carolina, 4-2. UNCG then took back-to-back matches against USC Upstate and opened the SoCon schedule with a 5-2 victory over Western Carolina. Guerra led the team to a six seed in the SoCon Tournament in Chattanooga, where it lost to the host Mocs in the first round. Guerra helped two Spartans earn All-SoCon honors. Sarah Swiderski earned All-Freshman accolades, with Amy Ellis earning the SoCon’s Sportsmanship award.

Prior to being named the head coach, Guerra was an assistant coach under Jeff Trivette for three years. She spent two seasons as the graduate assistant coach (2012-14) before being promoted to associate head coach in 2014-15. In 2012-13, she helped the Spartans post a 14-7 overall record and an 8-2 mark in Southern Conference play. UNCG rose to as high as No. 65 in the national rankings that year. Senior Nitooli Wilkins earned First Team All-SoCon honors under her tutelage. Guerra starred for the Spartans from 2007-09 and was named the 2008 Southern Conference Player of the Year. A two-time First Team All-SoCon selection in singles and doubles, she placed as high as No. 38 in singles and No. 12 in the ITA national rankings during her career. In 2008, Guerra went 18-2 in singles and ended the year with a perfect 9-0 record in SoCon play. She followed that up with a 29-8 overall record and a 9-1 mark in league play as a senior in 2009. The Tampico, Mexico native ended her career with 47 victories in singles and 37 victories in doubles. Her 29 victories in 2009 are second all-time in program history after being surpassed by Wilkins in 2011 (30).
