Southern Conference Player of the Week (Mar. 22)… Competed in 42 matches… Earned a 14-8 record at No. 1 singles… Currently ranks 14th all-time with 29 singles wins… Earned three SoCon victories… Earned a 15-5 doubles record with partner Daniel Mack… Went 13-5 at No. 2 doubles and earned a 2-0 record at No. 1… Thompson and Mack earned a trio of SoCon doubles victories… Started the season on a four-match win streak with wins over UNC Asheville’s Alex Croker (Jan. 30), Shamael Chaudhry of Davidson (Feb. 6), Tremayne Mitchell of Winthrop (Feb. 7) and Max Scholl of Gardner-Webb (Feb. 20)… Earned another three-match win streak over Radford’s Janken Thoen (Mar. 6), The Citadel’s Amari Artemie (Mar. 8), and Coastal Carolina’s Jabor Al-Mutawa (Mar. 10)… Earned three singles SoCon victories over The Citadel, Fares Kilani of Samford (Mar. 19), and Adam Steryous of Furman (Apr. 9).
Named to the SoCon All-Freshman team ... also earned second team All-SoCon in doubles with teammate Randy Phillips ... played in 58 total matches ... went 15-15 overall in singles and was 12-8 during the spring season ... had a 2-5 conference record ... played No. 2 (4-6), No. 3 (0-1), No. 4 (3-1), No. 5 (3-0, and No. 6 singles (2-0) ... defeated Mercer's Anderson Scarpa and The Citadel's Nick Bradley in conference ... had a 16-12 overall record in doubles and was 13-6 during the spring season at No. 1 doubles with Phillips ... paired with Nazhone Wilkins, Logan Walker and Randy Phillips.
comes to UNCG after a fantastic high school career going 62-1 that included 38 wins in a row at Holy Innocents’ private school in Atlanta, Georgia ... only defeat came as a sophomore two years ago at the LaGrange Invitational where he lost a third set tiebreaker 7-6 ... helped Holy Innocents reach the second round of the Class A private school state boys’ tennis playoffs last season ... was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country as a seventh grader (2008) coming in behind Noah Rubin, who recently won the junior Wimbledon title and committed to Wake Forest .... after taking a couple years off from competitive tennis tournaments, Thompson concentrated on high school tennis playing the number one singles position since 2011 that ended with a perfect 16-0 record his senior season.
